Scrunchies On The Run: Hair Claws Are Now the “In Way” to Tie Down Hair

To scrunchie – or not to scrunchie? That’s the question. Or really – isn’t this the question: What gives with the fact that everyone is now using hair claws? These are all weighty questions as we could be witnessing something epic: the end of the scrunchy era. .But we here at the Wire are diving into these all-important considerations, to get an idea about what are the dominant trends for just how we tie down or tame our hair.

All around it seems that the girls or anyone that just needs to put their hair up every now and then have been trading out the hair bands and scrunchies for claw hair clips. The upsides are legion: You no longer have to worry about losing hair to the hair bands. There’s less strain on the hair and overall it’s gentle on the hair and prevents breakage.

It’s more common now to see students at North Atlanta talking or sitting in groups where almost all of them have claw hair clips in or are most likely caring and extra clip in their bag. Even though it’s a recent trend other students have decided to wear the hair clips for other reasons. Senior Zoe Samples has been wearing the clips before the trend started. “I started wearing claw clips 2021 during the summer when I was at work. I really like the fringe look at the top especially with braids and my hairstyle is inspired by 2000s icons,” said Samples.

Claw clips have been the recent trend but before there was scrunchies and of course the original blueprint itself: rubber bands. Now even though a lot of hair holders have come to trend over the years it doesn’t seem like regular hair bands will ever be replaced. Senior Sumali Biswas still has some use for the rubber bands. “I don’t really have a preference. I like both equally, because it keeps my hair away from my face and it just does what it’s supposed to do,” said Biswas.

Since the trend it seems like claw clips have left their permanent mark on the hair community and with them coming in different stylish colors, sizes, and holds. Even though from what it seems it doesn’t look like the claws have done a full take over they’re here to stay and it doesn’t seem like rubber bands will allow the claws to come for their number one spot.
