Movies Saved! “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” Brings Hope to the Movie Industry

More Marvel Brilliance: The release of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” has received rave reviews in the opening weekend following its release, much to the excitement of Marvel fanatics at North Atlanta.

Marvel lovers on campus were in for a great surprise over Labor Day weekend with the arrival of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” in theatres. A mix of martial arts, magic, and the classic Marvel tropes that everyone knows has made for a movie that can be loved by all – whether you have seen all the 20 plus Marvel movies released before or not.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” marched to a dominant opening weekend, making $35.8 million in the box office. The movie is the first to be released by Disney that has not been streamed on their streaming platform at the same time. As a result, the new Marvel release has helped the movie industry to be confident in movies coming back in full swing, with Sony moving up the release of their own Marvel movie, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” on October 1st.

This time around, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” did not have the classic Marvel solo movie formula that many are used to when going to the theaters to see the latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This benefitted the perception of the movie as it was well received by critics and movie lovers alike, with the movie earning a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes (a popular film review site).

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” gives a look back to the style of classic martial arts movies, where stars like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Chuck Norris made appearances. The movie also happens to mix that with the Marvel influence, creating a visually stunning and cohesive story that resulted in a well rounded movie with a star studded cast. The cast that includes Tony Leung, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh, and the star –  Simu Liu – have been thrusted into stardom after they all played their roles to the tee, becoming fan favorites for Marvel fanatics in the process.

Many students around North Atlanta are Marvel fanatics, watching all the movies and the new shows that have been released in the past few months. The release of “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” will help to tide them over as their hype for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” begins with the release of the trailer and the movie’s pending release in December.
