Chick-fil-A: Does it Deserve the Hype?

Is it Worth the Hype? Sophomore staff writer Tanner Adams dives into this question and her answer may surprise some readers.

In the minds of most, Chick-fil-A (CFA) is quite possibly one of the best things ever. According to them, the waffle fries, crispy fried nuggets, and milkshakes ranks Chick-fil-A higher than any other fast food chain. And while, yes, Chick-fil-A is my top choice in regards to fast food, I simply just don’t understand the hype around the chicken sandwich empire.

Drive to any Chick-fil-A right now and I guarantee you there will be a drive-thru line wrapped all the way around the building. No matter what day (except Sundays of course) or time, Chick-fil-A is always busy. I understand the line is long because people love Chick-fil-A, but what I don’t understand is why they love it so much. Chick-fil-A is not as good as everyone credits it to be. Their nuggets are good, I will give them that, but, their fries are big and bulky (skinny fries are superior) and don’t even get me started on their milkshakes. Not only are they so bland, the chocolate does not taste like chocolate at all. It tastes like vanilla, gross.

On average, I get Chick-fil-A about 8 times a year. Six of those eight times, I’m traveling and getting Chick-fil-A as a quick meal on the road. Chick-fil-A is perfect in this situation. It’s somewhat gourmet fast food that is much more appealing than a place like McDonald’s or Wendy’s. However, many people will get Chick-fil-A on a daily or weekly basis simply for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even an afternoon snack. “Chick-fil-A is my favorite restaurant,” said sophomore Anna Moss. “I get food from Chick-fil-A, on average, seven days a week.”

The category where Chick-fil-A sweeps is customer service. Their employees are always so polite. They are a very customer focused company and make sure that the customer is indeed, always right. While the use of “my pleasure” can get to be a little much, you can always be guaranteed a good experience while ordering from Chick-fil-A. As for other aspects of the peach milkshake pioneer, anything Chick-fil-A does, other fast food restaurants do too, sometimes they are even done better. Some ‘Eat Mor Chiken’ enthusiasts have cited reasons such as ‘having healthier options’ for why Chick-fil-A “deserves the hype”. However, nowadays many fast food chains offer healthier options, not just Chick-fil-A. For example, McDonald’s offers smoothies and oatmeal.

Don’t get me wrong, I do sometimes go for the occasional chicken sandwich. I also do believe that Chick-fil-A is good and does well in the chicken and customer service category. However, you will never catch me waiting in a drive through line wrapped around the building just for some crispy nuggets, bulky waffle fries, and a bland milkshake.
