Wise Warrior Alert: Sophomore Colleen Blasick Smiles Her Way Through 2020
2020 has brought us warriors the hardships of COVID-19 and the stress of being a high school student online. The drawbacks of a global pandemic, and zoom meetings from morning till afternoon have sucked the life out of many Dubs, but Sophomore Colleen Blasick has kept a sunny disposition through it all.
Member of the Harvard Debate Council Diversity Project, North Atlanta Rifle Team, JROTC Sergeant Major of LET2, hair page owner, and founder of the North Atlanta club Healthy Mind, Body, and Soul, Blasick also remains on top of her grades and social life. Blasick used quarantine as a learning experience and chance to become the person she is today. As a naturally motivated student, she stays organized in her workspace and uses a calendar to do assignments on time and remind herself of important dates. “Maintaining good grades and a healthy mental state just as a teenager is very important,” said Blasick. “It’s taking time for your work; you take steps to your end goal just by doing your work.”
Healthy Mind, Body, Soul was created by Blasick in the effort to hold a safespace for students to come together and learn how to be more balanced. Club meetings are held every Friday from 3:00-3:45 where members engage in discussions surrounding the cruciality of a balanced interior/exterior and interact with guest speakers.
In winter she represents the school as a member of the Rifle Team (since freshman year). The team went undefeated last season. She’s used skills from the team and applied them to her daily life. “I learned to control my breathing and how to deal with failure as far as receiving a low score and how to bounce back,” says Blasick.
Past academics and extracurriculars, she makes the absolute most out of her leisure time, dedicating that time to self care and interacting with family and friends. Traveling is a favorite for Blasick, having been on camel rides in Dubai to roaming the Venice streets. Her hobbies include learning healing modalities and creating art and videos, such as on her Instagram page (@leenlovesnaturals). The account contains hair/self care tips, tutorials, routines, and reminders. Her Saturdays are taken by the Diversity Council, which she applied for and got in in May, learning elements of debate in order to compete towards the end of the program.
Aspiring Howard University Student and physical therapist, she hopes to use her positive charm to be involved in the community and guide those in need. With her family and friends by her side and the motivation to stay optimistic, the future is bright for Colleen Blasick. As life moves forward, we can only cheer on this ahead-of-the-game Dub as she adds more to her track record.
