Here’s the Scoop: North Atlanta Girls Lacrosse team prepares for their best season so far this year.

The 2019 campaign is well underway and the Warrior girls lacrosse squad is looking to make it farther than they ever have in post-season playoffs. For now, it is all about capitalizing on season matches and winning key regional games in order to prepare for a state run.

This season, the squad has accumulated the perfect combination of both talented newcomers as well as strong veterans. New players to the team this year, such as Mary Elaine Allen and Caitlin Hohenstein, have already stepped up on the squad as newcomers. Senior captain Keely Fitzsimmons believes that the level of competition this year as well as the amount of raw talent from the team will lead the squad to postseason. “There is so much promise and many expectations for the team this year,” said Fitzsimmons. “I know that we will have a lot of success if we perform as a team and use our talent to our benefit.”
The season kicked off on February 6 with a game against Mountain View at North Atlanta, which was an early test against the Warriors. Making it to state last year, the squad knows what it takes to compete on a level as challenging as that. Leading the squad this season is head coach Darren Greenlee as well as community coaches Kelsey Lombardi and Shannon Swanson, who aid the squad by boosting morale as well as providing guidance. Senior captains Keely Fitzsimmons, Callie Perciful, and Avery Culp are providing the kind of veteran leadership to the younger players that unites the squad.

Last season, the squad went 7 wins and 10 losses on the season, with 4 in 2 in region play. With regional play against challenging powerhouses such as Milton, Cambridge and Roswell, the Warriors plan to use those matches in order to continue to improve as a program. Senior Callie Perciful knows that important matches will be a key factor in the progression of the season. “Although we are up against tough competition within our region, I know that this year we have the perfect amount of team bonding and talent to go all the way,” said Culp. “I see a lot of potential for this season.”

With 2 games into the 2019 season, the team’s record stands at 1 win and 1 loss. In a season that’s sure to feature plenty of highs and lows, coaches and players alike are eager to make a deep run in the playoffs and a significant rewriting of the script Warriors girls lacrosse.
