The Beta Club is one of the largest clubs at North Atlanta, but what’s it all about? Many students think that Beta Club is merely an opportunity to get community service hours, but it is much more than that. It presents several opportunities for students that can be beneficial in their high school career and future, which is one of the many reasons for why it is so popular.

One of Beta Club’s biggest appeals is that it looks good on any college resume. Because Beta Club is an international organization, colleges are very familiar with the program and what it takes to participate. Members are required to maintain a high GPA and positive disciplinary records if they are to join and stay in the club, so it is seen as an organization for high-achieving students. “I think that one of the best things about Beta Club is is the scholarship opportunities,” said sophomore Michaelanne Jones. “That’s why a lot of people join.”

Academic opportunities are not the only thing that Beta Club has to offer, as volunteer activities are not hard to come across in the organization. From school events such as the recent Hygiene for the Homeless campaign to events hosted by the city and other organizations, Beta Club is always looking for different ways to get students involved in helping their community. “Beta Club has really opened my eyes to volunteer opportunities both in and outside of school,” said sophomore Caitlin Burch, the Beta Club historian officer.

One exciting event that the club takes part in every year is the National Beta Club Convention in January. This year, the event will take place in Savannah, Georgia and students who attend will be able to choose a category in which to show off their skills or even compete in competitions. These categories include things like design, writing, engineering, performing arts, and much, much more.

Beta Club is a great way to get involved in the community, whether that be through community service or building leadership skills. It is the perfect way to gain volunteer hours and scholarship opportunities. For anyone who has a high GPA and wants a club that will open up many academic doors for them, the Beta Club is a great place.
