High-Tech Hall Pass: North Atlanta teachers might bemoan students’ overuse of smartphones but these devices could have widespread utility for a new hall pass app.

Hall passes are important commodities at high schools across the country. They are needed to ensure that students are not skipping class and that they are going where they are supposed to be. Most teachers find them important and students find them an annoyance that delays their leaving of class.

Whether it be a premade lanyard that the teacher has for their class or a handwritten pass, hall passes must be held and kept track of when leaving the classroom. Fortunately, to more efficiently handle this issue the administration has come up with a hall pass system on the North Atlanta app.

Instead of the tedious process of getting out a piece of paper, writing up the pass, and getting a teacher to sign it, all students have to do now is make a few clicks on their phone. In order to issue a pass, students must select the teacher of the class they are in, the reason they are leaving class, and how many minutes the pass is valid for. This way, hall passes are issued more efficiently. Also, students are likely going to bring their phones with them when they leave the classroom, which does not add another thing for them to keep track of.

Since this is a new concept, it is slowly being used by teachers and students around the building. Sophomore Isabel Archer is one who likes the new high-tech system. “It is very efficient, helpful, and reliable, especially for getting released for sports,” she said.

The app may also be used for sports teams early release for away games. Passes no longer have to be distributed or collected by teams.

Because of its convenience for students, teachers, and coaches, the new hall pass system on the North Atlanta app is a growing success. Next time you have to leave the classroom, get out your phone and open up the North Atlanta app to easily create a hall pass, no paper required.
