North Atlanta Named Fox 5 Team of the Week

The NAHS Warriors were Fox 5’s Team of the Week

There is a new spirit connected to North Atlanta football this year. And the “New North” is so noteworthy that Fox 5 recently named the Warriors its team of the week. The honor, which came on the heels of the team’s stirring 21 to 7 victory over city rival Grady, added even more momentum for the early season.

In recognition of receiving the honor, North Atlanta High School had the opportunity to perform a live pep rally with Fox 5, hosted by on-air talent Paul Milliken. Milliken was joined by the North Atlanta football players, cheerleaders, band and Silver Stars.

The trophy — and early season wins over Grady and KIPP Collegiate — have caused a significant uptick in school spirit. This year, students have noticed that school spirit has never been more present. “Last year wasn’t a good season,” said senior Taylor Pugh. “I’m glad to finally see people taking pride in North Atlanta’s team.”

Because of this buzzing atmosphere, the players also have a renewed sense of vigor and motivation. The team has been working hard since the summer, where practices started early in the morning and ran late into the afternoon. Their current  practices are just as arduous, but they seem to be paying off. Senior left tackle Terrian Rainey is excited for what’s to come and assured their achievements won’t stop at being team of the week. “We are very proud and accept the award but we have bigger goals and want bigger trophies,” Rainey said.

In recent years, the Warrior football team has lacked awards of any nature, so it’s good to have some hardware in the trophy case. The publicity from Fox 5 has certainly increased school pride and recognition, however it is the hard work and dedication of the team that is the root of North Atlanta’s revived excitement in football.
