Mercedes-Benz Stadium Is Atlanta’s Newest Colossal Attraction
After 14 years of the Georgia Dome hosting the Atlanta Falcons nearly every Sunday, Atlanta has decided to construct a new home for the Falcons. The Mercedes-Benz stadium has been in the ideas of owners and builder since early 2010. The ideas finally came to fruition thanks to mayor Kasim Reed, and construction of the new stadium was underway. Not only will it be used for the Falcons, but the new Atlanta soccer team, Atlanta United, will be using the Mercedes-Benz stadium.
Among the first-of-its-kind features are the stadium’s halo video board which is nearly five stories tall along with seven bars and a whole host of new restaurants including.
The stadium cost $1.6 billion to build, with most of its funds coming from the city of Atlanta. The cost was originally around $1 billion, but after the parking deck renovation and other technical fixes, the cost jumped up to $1.6 billion. The stadium will also host certain college basketball and football championships. It is set to host the 2020 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and also the 2018 NCAA Football National Championship. Many students, such as junior Patrick Hannan are excited for the new experience the stadium will provide. “I am looking forward to seeing the Falcons play and going to the games with my friends. It’ll be fun,” Hannan said.
Another student who is excited is sophomore Mary Grace Ray. As one who loves to live in the moment, Ray is ready to soak the experience up. “I think it will be fun to go to the stadium and take a picture with my friends,” she said.
If the hype is this great at North Atlanta, you can only imagine how ready the entire city of Atlanta is for the Mercedes-Benz stadium.
