The Girls Golf Team Outplays All Competition at Lakewood Invitational
The North Atlanta Girls Golf Team is far too often overlooked, as most girls’ sports are. However, the team brought the Warriors their most recent title by winning the Lakewood Girls Golf Invitational hosted by Columbus High School.
On March 11, nine girls along with three managers traveled down to Columbus to compete against nine other high schools in an invitation-only event. The top three girls’ scores from each team is counted towards a school’s score. Those scores are then added together and the lowest overall score is crowned as the champion. The Warriors took the title with a score of 324 with the hosts, Columbus High School finishing in second and Brookstone High School in third.
This win gave the team confidence and experience as the season progresses. The goal is to win state and any help towards that is welcomed. “This is an opportunity for us to work on our game in preparations for the region tournament,” said head coach Kerry Sarden, a physical education teacher. “We are currently working on our short game which is pitching or short shots, along with putting. We can always work on getting better.”
Great teamwork and relationships is a fundamental basis for a sports team. The North Atlanta girls golf team has got this on lock. “I think we all work really well together. We are a really good team,” said junior Georgia Fife. “It was key in our win and the support from teammates is very encouraging.”
The Lakewood Girls Golf Invitational win filled the girls golf team with confidence as it aims high to win the state tournament. Backed by an experienced coach, the girls have a great shot at making it happen. Their last tournament was just a glimpse of what they are capable of.
