Girls’ Lacrosse Shows Its Power Within New Region
A quarter way through their season, the North Atlanta girls’ lacrosse team is already more than halfway to their total wins from the 2015-16 season. Standing at a 7-1 record, the girls are ready to face off against any opponent.
With wins coming against all non-region opponents like Pace Academy and Norcross High School, their toughest task lies ahead. The faced their first 6A opponent, Pebblebrook High School Vikings, on March 29 at home. They secured a sweeping win against the Pebblebrook Falcons, with the final score being 22-2.
With the goal of making it to the region playoffs for the first time, the girls have a solid plan to reach the aforementioned goal and overcome challenges associated with having a young and non-cohesive team. “We can get into game mode really easily and communicate really well,” said senior defensemen and captain Caroline Cook. “We just do not really know each well enough and could work on trusting each other more on and off the field.”
This mentality flows throughout the team as sophomore center Keely Fitzsimmons shares the same mindset. “We have a lot of talent through great coaching despite our small numbers,” said Fitzsimmons. “We need to better the fluidity of the team and grow as a program for the upcoming years.”
The Warriors girls’ lacrosse team seems to be one of the few programs at North Atlanta that is growing in success. Hopefully, they can keep it up and bring pride to the Warrior name.
