Seniors Enjoy Their Field Day Fun

Seniors take a break from the heat and cool off during Senior Field Day.

One of the first perks of the class of 2017 was Senior Field Day where the seniors enjoyed themselves while the other grade levels took the dreaded PSAT. “It was a really fun experience because it gave us a chance to get outside of the classroom and break the routine,” said senior Rebecca Rowen.

Every senior homeroom participated in the events that the morning presented: tug-o-war, 3-legged race, varied dance-offs, and even a teacher doing a unorthodox rapping session. “I thought Mr. Brelje dancing was funny but also scary,” said senior Tessa Richardson.

It has been mentioned by many people that the Class of 2017 is one of the most competitive classes that has attended North Atlanta. That was shown on the field, as homerooms were color coordinated and dressed in paint and glitter. One homeroom doubled down on effort to win the event’s spirit award by sporting a zany and popular mascot, specifically Ms. Marie Killory wearing a Special K Cereal Box costume that paid homage to her nickname.

Beyond the spirit award – which did go to Ms. Killory’s room – there were awards for total points, sportsmanship and an environmental award that went to the homeroom that was most conscientious about picking up their trash. The coveted overall award went to the homeroom that won the most games. First place was Killory’s homeroom, second went to Ms. Hiers students and third went to Ms. Valenzuela’s class.

This was a fun-filled day for seniors, and a day of test-taking misery for those stuck behind in the Hillside Building taking the PSAT. There was even Pero’s Pizza in attendance and selling pizza for $3. Maybe the pizza weighed seniors down, as there was a noticeable lull in participation after lunch was consumed. “I wish we had continued to play the games after lunch,” said Etyana Leigh, senior.

Despite the lag after lunch, Senior Field Day 2017 was a much needed reprieve for seniors. Work hard? Play hard? The popular event on the Warrior Field proves that the Class of 2017 has got that formula down.
