Five Ways to Survive Your End-of-the-Year Tests

Students prepare for finals with these study tips.

The end of the school year is near and you know what that means? Maybe summer break? Well, no, not yet. We still have end-of-course tests, finals and, if you’re taking IB or AP classes, there’s those tests too. Exam season is upon us but don’t stress because The Warrior Wire is here to ensure your success in five steps.

1) Group studying. Find a group of people in your class to form a study group and meet weekly. You can quiz each other on topics and discuss the harder concepts of the class in more depth. Sometimes you can understand a lesson better if it’s taught by one of your peers instead of your teacher.

2) Re-read notes. Re-reading notes helps you remember the key points that your teacher covered in class. Reviewing and even re-writing these notes can help you retain the information you need to know for the test.

3) Study online. Studying online with websites such as Quizlet will help you review for any test vocabulary or key topics.

4) Taking practice quizzes. In some classes the workbook or textbook has practice quizzes you can take to help you be better prepared for the type of questions that would be on the test.

5) Going to tutoring sessions. These sessions, held weekly by your teacher, give you a better chance of acing your test. Sometimes going to tutoring can completely flip your confusion to a confident understanding.

These are only a few of the many ways you can prepare for your tests, although by now, you probably have your own studying tactics to ensure a high score. Whatever those tactics are, ensure you don’t cram the night before, get a good night’s sleep, and then thoroughly review the material.  The A+ you’re looking for should be a piece of cake.
