Prom 2016: Before the Diamonds Drip
The countdown has begun and it’s moving pretty fast. Are you ready for the most thrilling, memorable, and elegant night of your life? Well juniors and seniors, get ready because it’s right around the corner.
This year’s prom is being held at 200 Peachtree Street on Saturday May 7, at 7 p.m. The venue, right in the heart of downtown, was originally the old Macy’s building. Language arts teacher Lois Brackin, the prom committee adviser, worked along prom committee members chose the location and did so because of its increasing popularity as an event venue. If you haven’t already paid for your way in, tickets are on sale for $160.
If North Atlanta students love sparkle and bling, then they definitely should attend this year’s prom. The theme is “Dripping in Diamonds,” a name given for its elegance and fancy aura that will keep students mesmerized all night. Imagine diamond pillars, sparkling chandeliers and gold glitz and glam everywhere. As if it could get any better than that, be on the lookout for their show-stopping balloon arch and eye-catching centerpieces placed on every table. Junior Kyra Vandiver, a prom committee member, was asked about the inspiration behind the theme. “We just set up a poll, and that was the one that won,” she said.
It looks like everything is under control when it comes to making this prom a success. The planning process is going as smooth as it should be, and the details are getting closer and closer to being finalized down to the tee. The recently held school prom expo is now over and everyone’s been keeping count of all the romantic prom-posals that swarm these halls. According to another member on the prom committee, the final stages of the planning should be completed soon.
“We definitely should be done no later than around mid-April for sure,” said junior Ariel Carreras.
This year’s prom will be bigger, better, newer and more popular. For the first time in years, the venue has been moved and upgraded from the Omni Hotel. The décor budget was increased a little and it definitely will show. Also, lookout for the many buffet styled food stations that will be calling your name as soon as you walk in the door. When Vandiver was prompted to give some advice to all of the future prom-goers, her words were simple. “You just have to be there to see it. I can promise you that it’s going to be great,” she said.
This year’s prom will be a must-attend event. Dresses, shoes, ties, tuxes, hair, makeup, limos, after-parties, corsages, nails, selfies. It’s all part of the scene and you’re going to want to be there. Remember: Diamonds are forever, but the North Atlanta prom lasts just one night.
