Mockingjay – Part 2: The Hunger Games Franchise Finale
This much-anticipated movie is finally here: “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2.” In my opinion this is the best of the “Hunger Games” movies. The movie portrays the dark themes of the book convincingly, while balancing them out by ending on a positive note. Viewers will certainly leave the theater satisfied after seeing it.
The film contains a lot of action, though it doesn’t necessarily detract from the story’s quality. However, it may not focus as much as it should on some of the struggles the main characters were fighting off the battlefield. The movie seemed a little rushed in some places, as though there was an urgency to get back to the thrilling scenes.
Many fans were surprised when they heard the final book was being split, seeing it as a bit of a stretch to span the storyline over two movies. “Mockingjay – Part 1” only aided in confirming viewers’ well-placed trepidation about elongating the movie for no good reason (besides making money). Luckily, Part 2 makes up for many the shortcomings in its predecessor. The first installation left many viewers frustrated, especially at the anti-climatic ending, which set up well for the next film, but wasn’t as exciting as may have been expected.
The special effects exceeded the standard expected, even for this type of futuristic film. The cast was very strong and all the actors played their roles convincingly. Lead actress Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) with a very powerful performance, Julianne Moore (President Alma Coin) expertly portrays her controlling character, and fans favorite Natalie Dormer (Cressida) appears in more scenes.
Overall “Mockingjay – Part 2” is a must see. It wraps up the “Hunger Games” series in a very dramatic, suspenseful finale and is definitely worth a trip to the theater!
