Aren’t you supposed to win your homecoming game?

Last week, on Friday, Oct. 30, the North Atlanta Warriors took down the North Springs Spartans 22 to 12. The Spartans were expecting a different team to come out but what they instead got was another type of North Atlanta Warriors. This year’s team has put aside past ways and has fought to a 4 win 5 loss record, a significant uptick in the number of wins compared to past seasons. The Warriors have a 2 win 4 loss record in the 5A Region 7B.

Against North Springs, the Warriors scored first when junior quarterback Jack Ferguson connected with junior receiver Graeme McLeod. The Warriors converted on the PAT to make the score 7 to 0. The Spartans responded but missed on a two-point-conversion try which put the score at 7 to 6.

In the second quarter, Ferguson connected with senior running back K.D. Welch for a touchdown. The Warriors then converted on a two-point conversion which had North Atlanta going into halftime with a 15 to 6 lead. “Going into half we were happy that we were up but we also knew that anything could happen,” said senior running back Julious Washington.

The Spartans came out guns firing in the third quarter and marched up the field to score and making the game tighter at 15 to 12.

In the fourth quarter the Warriors fashioned a good-old-fashioned defensive shut down. North Springs never made it into Warrior territory. On the other side of things, the Warriors scored one more touchdown with a Welch gallop from the five-yard line into the end zone. The game’s final score was 22 to 12. “There was a lot of excitement after the game,” Washington said. “We were able to match the most wins we’ve had in three to four years. It felt amazing to come in and play and win on their homecoming and senior night.”

The Warriors travel to Cass High School in White to take on the Colonels in the season’s final game. The matter what the outcome, North Atlanta has sent a signal during the 2015 season that the Warriors football is a brand new ball game.
