FBLA Charts a Course for An Active Fall
Looking for a club to send you flying into the future? The North Atlanta chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America can teach you how to give back to the community, lend a hand at awesome fundraisers, and master your business and leaderships skills. FBLA meets every first Wednesday of the month in room 6141, home to Lorraine Bowen, business and technology teacher.
The club is open to all and adviser Bowen stresses that everyone is encouraged to join. “This is not a club for kids with experience or anything,” she said. “It’s a club for anyone who’s interested.”
While the focus for the club is conferences and other things to get students thinking about their future, there’s also plenty of fun involved. With more than 250,000 members, FBLA is the world’s largest student organization for those interested in careers in business. With more than 200 members at North Atlanta, the club is one of the school’s largest. “We’re the cream of the crop when it comes to business. No one tops us,” she said.
North Atlanta’s FBLA has been is recognized for large size, active participation in leadership workshops, and competitiveness at FBLA events. The club also recently received the honor of having one of its member elected as FBLA Region President for the region encompassing Atlanta Public Schools. The region president is senior Maleni Palacios, who serves as North Atlanta FBLA president.
Under Palacios’ leadership, the group has been the picture of activity this fall. Fundraisers have included bake sales, movie nights, and Chick-fil-A calendars. More than 100 North Atlanta members attended the FBLA Fall Leadership conference in Perry on October 14. “FBLA is on a roll this year,” Palacios said. “We’ve been way more productive than we’ve been in a while.”
If the world is looking for future business leaders and entrepreneurs, the search will not be hard to pull off. Leaders of this nature can be found during FBLA meetings held in room 6141 every first Wednesday of the month.
