New Athletic Director Has Big Plans
In late-April 2015, Coach Doug Britton, the school’s former athletic director, announced that he would not be coming back for the following year. Luckily, Principal Curtis Douglass had someone in mind to take his place. Andre Regan, the school’s longtime audio-visual teacher and 11 Stories producer, was a perfect fit for the post.
The job of athletic director is one that comes with many responsibilities, including overseeing all interscholastic teams, coaches and athletic facilities and to maintaining schedules associated with outside entities using Warrior facilities. On top of this impressive raft of responsibilities, Regan also leads the video journalism program, teaches three classes, and he coaches girls’ lacrosse. “I’m drowning in work. Every day is another challenge, but I’m getting there,” he said.
For now, the new athletic director’s biggest challenge is a lack of time. “I might end up having to teach less next year, which would be difficult because I’d be walking away from the program I built,” he said.
Though there are struggles, Regan is looking forward to the upcoming year, especially the football season. “I’m looking forward to this season primarily due to the fact that there are a lot of energetic bodies that came out this year,” he said. “I think that the tie against Lovett gave us the momentum we needed to launch ourselves into the season with the right state of mind.”
Regan also has plans for sports other than football. In order to benefit every team, he is trying to upgrade as many facilities as possible over the next few years. This includes getting lights for the tennis courts and an indoor hitting facility for baseball and softball.
One of the things he is most excited about is the sports banquet that he is planning for the spring. “I want to give teams the recognition that they deserve for their success, celebrate our athletes that are also high-achievers academically, and bind our interscholastic teams into a community that supports each other,” he said.
With Regan’s commitment and dedication, there is no doubt that many victories are just around the corner for the Warrior athletes.

I really think that the idea of having the Audiovisual Teacher as the Athletic Director will workout. It’s not that he may have majored in that field but he excels in both as teacher and AD. Great job NAHS!! As a former student athlete of Northside High School, I applaud you and will forever support you! Go Warriors-Tigers!!!
