As the North Atlanta Men’s Basketball season comes to a close, and the team makes a late push for some postseason glory, the stage was set last Friday on January 31, 2025, for a senior night matchup against the Denmark Danes at North Atlanta. For four years, the Warriors’ senior class has competed against the best teams in APS and on Friday, for one final time, they showed out for the home fans in a 93-49 win against the Danes. Senior night, no matter what sport it is for, is always an emotional time for the Warriors, as it calls for one final celebration and ceremony for the Warriors’ leaders on the court who helped make the team what it is today.
Going into the Friday game against the Danes, the Warriors were 12-11 in overall play and ranked towards the middle of the pack in region play. This senior night game was one that the Warriors needed to have, as it was expected to be a game that could spark a streak that could get the Warriors through the tougher part of the schedule as the season wraps up. During the game, the Warriors were able to rally behind a star performance and scoring clinic from senior forward Mayson Baker, who started off the game hot and set the tone for the rest of the night. The Danes were unable to answer this performance the whole night, and the Warriors were able to run away with a win. “It’s exciting that I was able to play the way I did on Senior night”, said Baker, ”This team and playing in front of the home fans means a lot to me, so I’m glad I was able to do my part.”
Another senior who put up big numbers against the Danes on Friday was center Brooks Allen, who put up 11 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double, which kept the Danes from competing in the game at all. Throughout his entire high school career as a North Atlanta basketball player, Allen has been able to consistently put up big numbers in the scoring and rebound categories, so seeing him do what he does best one final time in front of the home crowd was a great sight on senior night. Allen’s productivity in the paint and his ability to change a game will be missed by coaches and fans of the team for years to come. “I’m going to miss this team,” said Allen, “I’ve had a lot of positive memories here and I’m thankful for the relationships I’ve built.”
Before the game, seniors for both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were honored on Sarden’s Court with a special ceremony that included pictures taken with family and special personalized gifts given to the senior players. The North Atlanta student section also showed out during senior night as it was the last home game of the season that the students were able to attend, with most of the crowd consisting of seniors. As the hype around the North Atlanta basketball teams gets bigger, this senior night was one to remember. “It was incredible to watch our Seniors shine in such a special atmosphere surrounded by their families, friends, and fans,” said Coach Krystal Wells.
As the 2024-25 North Atlanta basketball season comes to an end, it was special to see the seniors shine one final time on Sarden’s Court. The future is bright for these seniors, and it will be exciting to see many of them continue to represent North Atlanta on the basketball court in the future.
