The school has been abuzz with talk of the proposed stadium renovations to the North Atlanta High School football stadium, but many students are left wondering about what is really going to happen. Some believe that there is going to be an entire new stadium built right here on campus, while others believe that they are making small projects to clean up the field. But how many of these rumors are true?
In order to inform North Atlanta what is happening in terms of the stadium renovations and debunk some of the myths that have begun to swirl around, Coach Aull and Coach Regan were interviewed with general questions about the projects as both have been heavily involved in the process. Both coaches were asked about whether or not the school was getting a stadium on campus, and the response from both was an overwhelming no. “There are a lot of rumors circulating out there, but we can say for certain that there will not be a stadium built at our home field,” said Coach Regan.
However, there are two renovation projects that are actively in the works right now. The first of the initiatives is the revamping of our game field, courtesy of the Atlanta Public Schools (APS). APS is renovating every school’s seating at their home field throughout the entire district, including the NAHS stadium on campus. The old bleachers will be replaced while new ones will also be built onto the Hillside. On top of this, a new fence around the field is being added. “I’m excited for this project, especially for the new fences,” said Coach Aull, one of the active voices in these renovation talks. “It will help to secure our facility from people who treat our equipment like it’s community stuff and also make our stadium one step closer to being one where we can play more home games.”
While the first project is set to begin in late May, the second one is still in the works. There has been talk of turning our home field into a “legitimate” varsity-size football stadium, something that would be supported by the North Atlanta Foundations and the Sports Booster. The ideas for this project are still being thrown around, but could include things like locker rooms and facilities being built by the field for our coaches, home team, and visiting team. “This is all still being discussed,” said Coach Aull. “I think a realistic timeline for this to even start happening would be three to five years, but it is something that I am looking forward to discussing further.”
Imagine, having home games at Northside and not having to drive all the way to Piedmont Park! Whatever is to come of these projects, bleachers and new fencing are for sure going to be a nice addition to the North Atlanta football field. Hopefully, this cleared some misconceptions, and stay tuned in case anything changes. Until next football season, it is exciting to see what the future will hold!
