Max Rode and Lathan Johnson, two standout seniors on the North Atlanta varsity soccer team, are set to take their talents to the collegiate stage. Rode, a dynamic winger, is heading to Lee University, a Division II program in Cleveland, Tennessee. Meanwhile, Johnson, a prolific goalscorer, will take his talents to Middle Georgia State University, a Division II institution in Macon, Georgia keeping him close to home as he continues his soccer journey. Before they make the transition to college soccer, both are prepared to leave their mark this upcoming high school season as they aim to lead the Dubs to a state title, Dale Dubs!
During the historical 2024 high school soccer season, Rode and Johnson built on the chemistry they developed playing together for Concorde Fire ECNL, leading North Atlanta to a final-four playoff run. Johnson’s dominance up top earned him the 6A Area 4 region player of the year award tallying 14 goals and 7 assists, building his reputation as one of the top strikers in the state of Georgia. Rode, a shifty and creative force on the wing, contributed 10 goals and 8 assists on the season, earning an honorable mention for his standout performances day in and day out. Varsity coach Epi Jimenez expressed that their impact on the field helped drive the Warriors’ success, setting the stage for the upcoming season and their transition into college-level soccer. “ Max and Lathan were game-changers for us all season and came in clutch whenever we needed them to,” said Jimenez. “When they took the field, they were always exciting to watch.”
As they enter their final high school soccer season, Rode and Johnson are determined to finish their high school careers on a high note. With their experience, chemistry, and leadership, they will be key figures in North Atlanta’s run for a state championship. Their ability to create and conquer goal-scoring opportunities makes them valuable to the program and one of the most dangerous attacking duos in the state. Former North Atlanta captain Owen Patton, who played alongside them during the 2024 season, praised their impact on the team. “Max and Lathan bring a different level of intensity, skill, and IQ to the game. They push everyone around them to work harder which influenced us to have such a great season last spring,” said Patton.
With their marks already solidified at North Atlanta, Rode, and Johnson now look ahead to their final high school season before taking the next step in their soccer journeys. As they prepare for the challenges to come, they will certainly leave a lasting impact on the Dubs soccer program and carry the “Dale Dubs” spirit into their collegiate careers.
