After a long offseason filled with anticipation and a yearning for the pitch, the North Atlanta men’s soccer season is set to begin this spring. In the past couple of years, the team has emerged as a strong contender for winning state, and with another year of star players coming back with high aspirations for winning and the natural cycle of new players entering the lineup, the team is liking their chances this season. With the memory of last year’s exciting playoff run fresh in the minds of Warrior students, the North Atlanta community is eager to see what this 2025 squad can bring to the pitch this time around.
This season, the Warriors are led by returning captain senior Servando “Junior” Moreno, and newcomer captains senior Lathan Johnson and junior Grant Benner. All of these outstanding players have paved their way through the North Atlanta soccer system and will now have an opportunity to lead the team through the long season ahead. After a disappointing loss in the semifinals last year, these captains have the experience that it takes to rally the team to a playoff berth and state championship appearance. “We’re excited about the season coming up”, said the senior captain Serando “Junior” Moreno, “we not only want to replicate the success we had last year, we want to make it further in the playoffs this time.”
The 2025 North Atlanta men’s soccer schedule is nothing short of difficult. Some of the key games that are highlighted on the schedule include an away game against the powerhouse Lambert Longhorns who boasted an impressive 15-3-1 record in last year’s season, a home game against South Forsyth who went 12-3-2 in 2024, and an away game against the rival Midtown High School towards the end of the season, who also went 12-3-2 in the 2024 season. The Warriors also start the year playing 7 straight away games, which could be a challenge for the squad. “We like our schedule and we love a challenge”, said senior Captain Lathan Johnson, “We believe in the work we did over the offseason and we think we have a chance to be a problem on our opponent’s schedules this year.”
During last year’s playoffs, North Atlanta soccer made a name for itself, as droves of North Atlanta students showed up to “fill the hill” during their home games. Players on the team hope that this support from the students will become a regular occurrence, as soccer is quickly becoming one of the most popular and exciting sports North Atlanta offers. This trend will only continue as the team hopes to compete their best every game and bring a state championship to North Atlanta for the first time. “We thought the support from the students last year was special,” said junior captain Grant Benner, “If it’s like that every game this year, no one would be able to stop us”
With the days until the start of the season counting down, there is a lot of excitement surrounding North Atlanta men’s soccer throughout the 11 stories. With the emergence of new captains and players, a new sense of pride and support for the team, and a group of players that call themselves family, the Warriors are looking to make a big splash in 2025.
