17 days, no school, and a whole world of adventures. For many students, the holiday break was a chance to explore new places, catch up with family, or simply take time to relax. From exotic vacations to hometown traditions, the question on everyone’s mind is: where did they go? All around the world, from snowy peaks to sunny beaches to traditional family trips; no one had a complaint.
When going on a vacation there are two different types of travelers. There are the ones that are excited by the cold weather and snow. They love the snowy day activities that are not possible here in Atlanta. On the other hand, there are the ones tired of the freezing temperatures, ready to go somewhere warm. For Caroline Whitney and her family, they were excited about the joys of snow and snowboarding. For the holiday break, Whitney, her family, and two other families went to Steamboat Springs, Colorado. “My favorite memories were playing in the snow and spending time with friends and family I don’t normally get to see every day,” said Whitney.
Another one of the great things about vacations is traditions. Going to the same place every year can be very special. The memories that are made there every year and coming back every year to relive them with family and friends can be so much fun. Ana Carolina traveled to Portugal this past holiday break. It is a tradition for her family, although she normally goes during the summer. The one thing that stood out to her was the beautiful Christmas lights in Lisbon and the pretty river. “I felt the Christmas spirit because it was cold, I got a lot of presents, and the views were amazing,” said Carolina
On the other hand, some people thrive in warmer weather. Who doesn’t love a good time on the beach? The sun shines down on you outside while spending quality time with your family. The wind blowing in your hair cooling you down. A sharp contrast to the current weather here. Wanting to escape Atlanta and the cold weather, freshman Zoe Piernik, went with her sister and parents to the US Virgin Islands. She reported that her trip was very fun and beautiful. The beaches were warm, with crystal clear blue water, the perfect conditions for snorkeling. “I got to snorkel for the first time, and it was a magical experience with my mom,” said Piernik.
Whether the students are chasing the snowy slopes, cherishing traditions, or escaping to the warm weather, holiday vacations are memories to cherish for years to come. From Colorado to Portugal to the US Virgin Islands, there were no regrets. No matter the destination, each student will come back to school relaxed and ready to take on the new year.
