With temperatures reaching 70 degrees recently, it is almost impossible to believe that it is near the end of November. Although the weather is not projecting the comforting cozy holiday aura, the holidays are, in fact, almost here. Hiding beneath a blanket while sipping on steaming hot chocolate is something that cannot be beaten; however, holiday events here in Atlanta are a close second. Between the Botanical Garden Lights, Atlantic Station ice skating, and the Christkindl Market, Atlanta is beaming with holiday cheer.
On November 16, the Botanical Garden lit up with hues of red, green, blue, and white for the 13th year in a row. The beautiful garden beneath the shining sun becomes additionally beautiful when the sun vanishes from the sky. This approximately two-hour excursion includes key sights such as the Tunnel of Light, Nature’s Wonders, and the Ice Goddess. Students here at NAHS have witnessed this beautiful holiday sight year after year, including sophomore Liza Hagy. “I wish everyone got to experience the thrill of walking through each year,” said Hagy.
On November 17, Atlantic Station retrieved its holiday glow with its gorgeous snowflake lights hanging above the roads, massive Christmas tree in the center, and iconic ice skating rink. Not only is Atlantic Station perfect for last-minute holiday shopping, but also for joyful moments with friends and family on the ice. Whether sliding or slipping, Atlantic Station ice skating is always enjoyable. Senior Bella Van Nostran is found each year approaching the ice. “Although I still cannot ice skate, it is still fun to try each year,” said Van Nostran.
On November 22, the Atlanta Christkindl Market opened its gates to eager adults and children waiting to see what treats are waiting within. The Christkindl Market features authentic German food, toys, drinks, bath items, jewelry, ornaments, etc. It brings in a wide variety of people each and every year. Those craving a fresh schnitzel, such as freshman Sydney Tothill, should scurry down to the Buckhead Shops and through the gates of this beautiful outdoor market. “I’ve been dying to go these past years, and this year I finally can,” said Tothill.
The holidays are the perfect time to bring friends or family together. Cooking massive meals, cuddling up by a beaming fire, or opening presents from beloved grandparents is always enjoyable; however, there is nothing better than strolling through beautiful lights in the night, skating around in circles uncontrollably laughing, or stocking up on random German trinkets.
