As the temperature begins to drop, and the sun sinks earlier in the day, the boy’s football team bundles up for a deep playoff run. November is finally here, and that means playoff football for most teams across the country, and here in Georgia it just means more. Our beloved Warriors clinched a 1 seed in the top right of this year’s GHSA class 6a state playoff bracket, where they are matched up with the 4-seed Peachtree Ridge. This team is looking to stamp their names into the history books once again, with a playoff run hopefully ending in a ring on their finger.
The Warriors finished off their season on a 9-game winning streak, and look to extend it to 10 games this Friday, 7:30 pm at home against Peachtree Ridge. This is the second year in a row that the Warriors have hosted a first-round home playoff game, last year they came up short losing a shoutout to Houston County 32-42. Head Coach Jamie Aull and his team are confident that this is their year to move past the first round and believe that they can make an even deeper run into November. “These guys just never quit, 1-0 is the goal every week,” Coach Aull Said.
If the boys handle business on Friday they would be matched up with the winner of Hillgrove vs South Gwinnett, this game would also be a home game the following Friday, November 22nd at 7:30 pm. After the 22nd the Warriors would be in the quarterfinals facing Carrollton, the number 5 team in the country, this game would be over Thanksgiving break on November 29th, then the semifinals against Buford on December 6th, they are the number 12 team in the nation. Finally, on December 13th the Warriors would most likely face off against Douglas County, the 33rd team in the nation for the GHSA 6a state title. However, these young men aren’t worried about anything besides Peachtree Ridge this Friday, the goal is 1-0 every week.
In order to win games in November and especially in December both the offense and defense have to be locked in at practices and in the film room. Last week was a bye week where the team was able to have 3 practices and 2 film sessions, when speaking to 3-star Senior safety Tobi Adewoyin he made it seem like last week was very beneficial. “Everyone was locked in and focused, practice was super productive,” He said
It’s been a long season for the Dubs, but they are going to fight till the end and hope to make a long run deep into the night of the playoffs.
