The sound of fallen leaves crunching beneath the busy feet of students and the crisp breeze swaying through the air has marked the beginning of fall for North Atlanta students. As this brisk draft weaves through the campus, it carries with it a feeling of nostalgia that permeates through the air. Students begin to recall their most coveted memories of fall, instilling within them an excitement for the activities to come.
Many students embrace the commencement of fall with a fresh wardrobe to compliment its cooler temperatures and muted tones. Hues of brown, crimson, ivory, and olive green blend together to make the unique color palette of fall. Once the season begins, students find themselves eagerly reaching for those warmer items for their daily attire. Sooner than later sweatsuits, boots, and jeans take the place of what are now outdated summer staples. Sophomore Haley James expresses that her love for fall is fueled by its fashion trends. ‘’For me, fall means going thrift shopping and getting to wear chunky knit sweaters with my Uggs,’’ she said.
Forget the pumpkin patches and fairs, for football lovers, fall weekends are designated to tailgates and watch parties to cheer on their favorite teams. However, for high school fans, football outlives the weekend through Fantasy Football, an addictive video game. Groups of players form their own league where new players battle each other each week for points. Ironically, the game’s amusement comes at the expense of the loser through an unpleasant or embarrassing punishment. ‘’I love fall because I love fantasy football,‘’ said sophomore Jackson Allen. ‘’Draft nights with my friends and watching the punishments unfold are the reasons I look forward to this season all year.’’
Shockingly, it appears that not all teenagers freeze out their parents during their high school years. Sophomore Mary Taylor Debardeleben’s endearment for fall begins in the kitchen, alongside her mom. With pumpkin being the season’s designated flavor, baking endeavors are infinite with confections like rich pumpkin pie and buttery pumpkin cinnamon rolls. However, for the Debardeleben culinary duo, hearts reside in the warmth of a fresh loaf of pumpkin bread. ‘’Pumpkin bread has been a favorite of my mom and me for as long as I can remember,’’ said Debardeleben. “The best part is the memories we create every year while making it.’’
This transitional period between the heat of summer and the festive winter months brings about experiences that are longed for all year long. Whether it be the sensational trends, sports, or delicious desserts, fall is a time to relive cherished pastimes.
