With the Volleyball season now coming to a conclusion, a new face for North Atlanta has made a name for herself. Opponents will have to watch out and take notes on this elite talent for the years to come. Laila Amos is a Junior outside hitter and is appearing in her first season wearing the black and silver, and the impact she has made certainly isn’t going unnoticed.
Laila has only been a part of the team for just 2 months, but her work ethic and abilities on the court have already made a huge impact for the Warriors volleyball program. Not only is her skill set a much-needed boost, more importantly, her strong tenacity and high motor have been rubbing off on her teammates. In particular, Sophomore setter Dorothy Perno has taken notice of how Amos goes above and beyond on the court. “Laila is always the hardest worker on the court, I strive to be like her,” said Perno.
Although Laila has found a new home as a warrior, her journey up to this point has been filled with ups and downs. Amos previously attended Landmark Christian School, a small private institution with around 50 people in each grade. Compared to North Atlanta which has around 10 times that population with over 500 people per grade level, it was quite the adjustment for Amos. “At first I found it hard to make friends, but once the season started my teammates were there for me,” said Amos.
Previously at Landmark Christian, Laila and her teammates appeared in back-to-back state championships in the 1A division racking up a stunning record of 66-16 over 2 seasons, whereas the lady warriors have struggled recently with a 16-40 record the past 2 years. The program hopes Laila can bring some of her winning touch over to the North, and she believes the program is trending in the right direction. “Since the season has begun, the energy and effort level seems to be high, and we’re winning,” said junior Bradley Koontz.
Laila Amos came to North Atlanta to help uplift a program that desperately needed a hand, and she has done just that. This year the girls volleyball team finished with a 12-15 record, their best record since 2020. The Warriors struggled playing away games this season, but racked up a stunning 8-1 record with the crowd behind them at home games. Laila has been a massive contributor in her first year wielding the shield and sword, leading the team in kills, Aces, and Digs. Everything seems to be trending in the right direction for these lady warriors and the volleyball program, with a little help from newcomer Laila Amos.
