The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club is helping students unlock their full potential and prepare for the future. This club, run by Joelena Moore, Althea Collier, Melissa Edwards, and Lorraine Bowen, opens a gateway for students to develop their leadership and practical skills for the business world. With countless opportunities for competitions, students are provided with the opportunities to shine on both a local and national level.
Lorraine Bowen is a business teacher at North Atlanta and one of the sponsors of FBLA. Bowen is the person who communicates with local companies to make service projects for students like working at Chick-Fil-A during a baseball game, teaching students communication skills and teamwork. She tries to find new ways for students to give back to their community by doing fundraisers for charities. She encourages students to create service projects that provide them with a sense of social responsibility. “Even if students don’t want to pursue a business career, joining FBLA can give students many skills that can make a difference in their future,” said Bowen.
Over the years, many students have competed in competitions and brought home 1st place medals like Corinne Evans. Evans is currently a senior as a region officer for FBLA and rightfully deserves the position for her previous efforts. Evans has competed nationally and was the co-president of the FBLA Chapter. Currently, she is the region officer for Georgia’s 7th region, running leadership conferences for almost 30 Georgia schools. This has put her leadership skills to the test as she has to help organize competitive events like the fall leadership conference, motivational rally, and putting together various training workshops. Evans believes that FBLA has prepared her and others to tackle the business world. “I think that through increasing my involvement with FBLA, many members at North Atlanta have been inspired to do the same,” said Corrine Evans.
As the co-secretary of FBLA, Junior Elizebeth Greer plays a vital role in encouraging others to join to gain the opportunity to advance in certain topics that interest them and potentially reach state-level achievements. She has been a member of FBLA since freshman year and recommends everyone to join. She was able to do an online competition through FBLA, “Introduction to Marketing Concept” and has plans to study marketing in college. Beyond the competition, FBLA has given her the opportunities to advance in her future career and further her understanding of leadership. Greer said, “I have been to places of great interest all through FBLA’s reputation and authority.”
Lorraine Bowen, Corinne Evans, and Elizebeth Greer’s experiences shed light on the incredible benefits FBLA offers. Whether it’s gaining leadership experience or competing at high levels, the club provides possibilities for each student to unlock their potential and grow.
