Donning their illustrious dresses and suits respectively, we saw a collective group of leading North Atlanta students across the four grades duke it out for the various magnificent titles for Homecoming. Outside of the standard Mr and Ms for each grade, two impressive battles slipped through the initial cracks of Dubs community hype: Mr and Ms Black and Silver. Reserved for two-star Warriors’ athletes, we saw 3 total candidates emerge onto the gym floor. First, we saw Senior track phenom Malique Ferron, who stood as the lone male of the bunch. On the women’s side, however, we saw a close two-headed race between all-around athlete and director Victoria Carlucci and impressive dancer Jada Amadja. As the nail-biter came down to the wire on Friday, we received both results simultaneously, with the two winners eventually being announced as Ferron for Mr. Black and Silver and Carlucci as the eventual Ms. Black and Silver.
Despite his lone candidacy, the glamor of the Mr. Black and Silver title continued to shimmer for Ferron and his family. The immense work the NAHS track star and Junior Olympian spent campaigning and rallying the troops across the 4 grades completely paid off and now it was time to celebrate. Yet, despite his personal diligent efforts throughout the whole process, Ferron humbly accredits the Black and Silver victory to his friends and family who pushed him to go into the running in the first place. Without them, he expressed, the brilliant destination wouldn’t have even been possible. “Seriously I can’t thank anyone more than the people that I’m close to. They were with me throughout this journey. Now I’ll do nothing less than represent them well,” said Ferron.
Following a more end-to-end race, the relief felt by Carlucci upon hearing she finally collected her own honor coursed through her body as she sighed in relief. The battle was a grueling one, as she attested, but all wasn’t quite over despite reaching her own goal. As she already is, being a multi-sport athlete in gymnastics, volleyball, and flag football and the athletic director’s assistant on the more technical side of it all, she strives to use her platform to not only represent the broader North Atlanta community but specifically the sports side of things. Carlucci aims for more recognition for all of our impressive Warriors athletic teams and hopes she can act for the whole collective to the best of her abilities. “It’s the least I can do after the amount of love everyone showed me. Now, it’s my turn to return the favor and show our sports the appreciation they deserve,” Carlucci said.
Our Dubs athletes now have their chosen leaders in a sense, with Ferron and Carlucci emerging as those standing at the pinnacle of NAHS sports. But broader than just our athletic community, the entirety of our North Atlanta body could not be more thrilled than to see these two winners in their newfound positions. Now there, we will back them to the fullest as they embark on their tasks in leadership across our school and show their pride in the almighty encompassing North Atlanta sports program.
