The 2024-25 North Atlanta school year has ushered in many changes, including a 15-minutes-earlier start time and a universal hall pass. The most significant change, however, may just be the addition of Smart Mouth Pizza to the cafeteria’s menu. This pizza comes alongside many other changes and improvements to the lunch-room menu. Although it’s still very early in the school year, Smart Mouth Pizza is already looking like a fan favorite, and the students are eating it up!
Smart Mouth Pizza is no amateur when it comes to serving schools with delicious pizza. In fact, they’ve been making and serving freshly baked pizzas to schools around the United States since 2001. Seth Salzman, the Chief Operating Officer of Smart Mouth Pizza, sees Smart Mouth as a way to make a positive impact on the schools that it partners with. “It’s about bringing kids into the cafeteria,” said Salzman. “When kids hear about the pizza, they come into the cafeteria and when they see the other food, they’ll eat the other food too.”
If you want to get your hands on this delicious pizza next time you go to lunch, you’re gonna have to be fast. As soon as the lunch bell rings, hoards of hungry students crowd the pizza lines so they can get their hands on a box of pizza. If you can’t get to the line fast enough, you might have to wait quite some time, and that is far from ideal for the starving scholars of North Atlanta. Smart Mouth has completely sold out every day so far this year, so you better make sure you’re ready for the lunch bell. “When it’s time for lunch, I have to squirm my way down the stairs,” said senior Henry Katz. “When I finally get to the cafeteria, I break into a sprint for the pizza line.”
Smart Mouth Pizza’s dedication to the community runs much deeper than just serving great food to students. For every 10 pizzas they sell, they donate one meal to charity. To put this into perspective, Smart Mouth Pizza sells around 500 pizzas every school day in North Atlanta. That means around 250 meals are donated to charity by Smart Mouth every week. “We wanted to help APS bring their food to a greater level,” said Salzman. “And when we serve our pizza, we’re able to help those in need around our community.”
In the future, Smart Mouth Pizza has plans of implementing items such as calzones, stuffed cheese bread, and stuffed baked sandwiches to their menu in the near future. That being said, be sure to get to the lunch line as soon as possible so you can get your hands on one of these before they sell out.
