Running toward the end of the season, North Atlanta’s boys and girls track teams found major success at the APS Championships on March 23- 25th. After an impressive showing by the girls’ team, they were crowned as APS Champions, while the boys’ team finished as runners-up to Maynard Jackson. With the overall success of North Atlanta being displayed, many accomplishments stand out that helped the Warriors become an unstoppable force on the track.
On the girl’s side, the Warriors had multiple outstanding victories that propelled them to an APS championship. In the Long Jump, the girls swept the podium, with senior Kayleigh Stargell finishing first, senior Mia Stimpson finishing second, and senior Tori Sadler finishing third. Led by senior Catherine Townsend, the girls finished with two runners on the podium in the 1600-meter run with Townsend securing first place and sophomore Catherine Brown finishing with third place. On the second day, the Warriors found success in the 4×400-meter relay taking the top spot, and the 300-meter relay with Stargell and Stimpson finishing in first and second place. All of these victories along with many others were enough to help the Warriors bring home an APS Championship. “I’m really proud of the way our team fought,” said senior Kayleigh Stargell, “We ran our best and it showed for sure.”
On the boy’s side, the Warriors also had a very successful couple of days at the APS Championships, finishing as runners-up. In the field events, North Atlanta found success, as junior Gabe Hull finished first in the pole vault, while senior Dallas Ford and junior Chase Linton finished first and second in the triple jump. Over the two-day running events, the Warriors struck again as Junior Malique Faron and Ford finished first and second, in the 110-meter hurdles, seniors Mason Woods and Darious Malcom Jr. finished second and third in the 100-meter dash, and senior Teddy Meridith finished second in the 1600-meter run. These successes were more than enough to give the Warriors the runner-up spot in the competition. “I think we all individually did a great job,” said senior Dallas Ford, “Overall, we were very successful.”
The APS Championships proved to be very successful for both sides of the track team. Through their hard work, relentless effort, and determination, the Warriors were able to make our school proud and bring home a championship and a runner-up finish. With the end of the track season just around the corner, it’s important that these athletes keep up the hard work to bring out the best of North Atlanta Track and Field.
