When it comes to science fiction action movies, it doesn’t get much better than Transformers. “Transformers One,” which is set to release later this year, will be the newest installation in the Transformers series, and it will be visiting the origins of the infamous rivalry between Optimus Prime and Megatron. As fans around North Atlanta prepare for their first on-screen glimpse of Cybertron, there would be no better time for a recap and ranking of the Transformer movies.
Starting this list off strong is the original “Transformers” movie. Released in 2007, this classic has withstood the sands of time, remaining a steady fan favorite. With just the right mix of action, comedy, and romance, there is not much more that could be asked of this movie. “Transformers” does a great job introducing the unique and witty characters of many of the beloved Autobots and the despised Decepticons. This movie is also one of the two movies in the “Transformers” series to feature the star actor Megan Fox. By virtue of its thrilling plot, vibrant cast, amazing CGI, especially for its time, and witty characters, Transformers will be receiving a perfect 10/10.
Coming in at the second spot on this list is “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” This movie is the second and final movie to feature Megan Fox in the Transformers movie franchise. Although many of the same characters are present in this movie, the audience is also introduced to many more cherished humans, Autobots, and Decepticons. While this movie is still great, it just doesn’t quite measure up to the expectations of the premier movie, receiving an 8/10.
In “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” fans are finally introduced to another prime, besides Optimus Prime. However, the newly welcomed Sentinel Prime does have the same morals as the rest of the Autobots and turns evil in an unexpected turn of events. Filled with betrayal, destruction, and death, this movie is one of the sadder movies within the Transformers movie series, and the plot can be confusing to follow at times. Due to these factors, “Dark of the Moon” will unfortunately have to welcome a humble 5/10.
“Transformers: Age of Extinction” introduces a completely different enemy to the Autobots than what fans were expecting: humans. As the first Transformers movie without Shia LaBeouf, the franchise’s star actor, it is definitely safe to say that this movie has a completely different feel than its predecessors. Fortunately, Mark Wahlberg is able to fill the role of the main character with grace, giving way to the start of a new Transformers cast. Although the franchise took some losses, “Age of Extinction” was able to provide fans with a new and exciting production featuring many new characters and the Dinobots, giving it a 7/10.
One of the most iconic representations of Optimus Prime, Nemesis Prime, makes his debut in “The Last Knight.” This movie gives fans a deeper dive into the Transformers lore and takes the character’s travels worldwide, giving a refreshing experience to the series. As a personal favorite, “The Last Knight” will be receiving a 9/10.
In the most recent installment of Transformers, “Rise of the Beasts” takes the Transformers across the galaxy and around the globe. With the presentation of a new type of Transformers, “Rise of the Beasts” gives fans many new characters to enjoy and appreciate. However, since the plot is relatively difficult to understand and there are many unlikeable characters in this movie, “Rise of the Beasts” sadly has to take a stooping 3/10.
Although there has been a recent downtrend in the production of Transformers movies, fans can only hope for the best for the upcoming movie. Hopefully, this will be the movie that will revive the series.
