To many students, prom is one of the most important events of the year. Getting the chance to dress your best and go all out does not happen every day. Prom is especially special for the seniors as it’s their last high school dance, and one of their last few times to create memories with each other. The North Atlanta Student Government Association (SGA) has been hard at work to create the most fabulous and memorable prom for our students. This year, 11th and 12th grade students got to vote on the prom theme choices provided by SGA which included Outer Space, Paris, and Met Gala. Excitement abounded all around the school when it was announced that this year’s prom will be “Met Gala.” Some are happy about the theme, but others say they are not altogether enthused, citing their uneasiness about how the details that surround the theme will be played out. No matter how the theme goes over, it’s coming up. Prom will be held on April 13 at The Grand Hyatt Buckhead.
The Met Gala is always a much-publicized event, and what better way to make prom? By incorporating glamorous details, such as a possible red carpet, and lots of “Old Hollywood” aesthetics, this year’s prom is sure to have great decor. Many are excited about getting to dress their best and act like a celebrity for the night. After all, The Met Gala is all about the glamor, and prom is all about having a fun and special night to celebrate. “I’m excited for prom, and know it will be a great time no matter what the theme is,” said Junior Alex Rivers.
While the Met Gala is known for being a go-to event for fashion and culture A-listers, students are concerned about how it will play out as a theme for prom. Every year the Met Gala has its own theme, so many questions about the details of the event have come up. Knowing the details of the event such as color schemes, decorations, aesthetics, can help students be more excited and prepared for the theme of the event. Many felt like finding the right outfits and aesthetics for prom would become more difficult without much of a guide for the theme. Other themes offered, such as Paris, give people more of an idea and more information about the decor, aesthetic, and ultimately the overall actual theme of the event. Many students feel that the grandeur of the Met Gala cannot be a prom theme, because the Met Gala is different every year. “Each Met Gala has been different, so what’s the main idea of this theme?” senior Noelle Driggers said.
Despite the differing viewpoints on this year’s theme, prom is sure to have something for everyone to explore. In the end, the night is about making memories with your friends and having fun. Sure this year’s theme might be a bit cryptic, but don’t forget – the event’s real theme is kids having fun and it’s guaranteed that everyone will have that this year.
