With determination igniting the pitch, the Lady Dubs have been on fire the first half of the season, showing they are a force to be reckoned with. Currently ranked 27th nationally, 15th in Georgia, and an impressive 2nd in the region, these Warriors are carving out a path of dominance. Sporting a 7-1-1 record overall, with a solid 2-1 standing in the region, their journey to victory is steered by the expert guidance of Coaches Ted Colburn and Gregory Baeza. Fueled by a talent-packed senior class, the Dubs are poised to conquer every challenge that comes their way on the road to glory.
The opener against Jackson set the stage for the season with a major 6-2 win, propelling the Dubs into a six-game winning streak. Matches against Woodward, Midtown, and Cambridge tested their mettle, but they emerged victorious in close matchups. Yet, it was their games against Drew Charter and South Cobb, with staggering blowouts of 9-0 and 10-0 respectively, that truly showcased their explosive start to the season. “After a couple weeks of intense practice testing the team’s dynamics, we started the season off really strong,” said senior Maggie Andreski, “We were definitely hitting our stride at this time during the streak which helped our team chemistry.”
Despite a tough 2-1 loss at home to Marist, which ended their undefeated streak, the Warriors found renewed motivation to succeed. Using the disappointment as fuel, they bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Pius, showcasing their resilience and determination. “The Marist game was definitely a turning point for us,” said senior Anabel Schelke, “We faced a choice: let the loss consume us, or channel it into motivation. I’m proud to say we all chose the latter.”
Guiding the team through highs and lows are senior captains Millie McCleod, Odalis Tapia, and Ansley McCaffrey, whose leadership on and off the field sets the tone for the Warriors. With Tapia and sophomore Liza Hanley leading the charge as top scorers, their offensive prowess fuels the team’s success. Additionally, the emergence of standout junior Jannah Pierce, recently called up to the U17 Puerto Rico National Team, shows the depth of talent within the team. “We’re not just a team, we’re a family,” said captain McCleod, “Through every victory and setback, we stand together, supporting and pushing each other to be our best. That bond is what sets us apart and fuels our success on the field.”
With nine games ahead, the Lady Dubs are setting their sights on the ultimate goal: the state championship. With a hunger for redemption and a thirst for victory, they’re coming back stronger than ever, poised to take on any challenge that stands in their way.
