As the end of the first semester of school comes to an end, a much needed holiday break comes with it, and it could not come any sooner. After a grueling period of studying and preparing for finals weeks, many North Atlanta students are burnt out, and the holiday break is just what they need to re-energize. Even though there is still a full week of finals before the break, many students have already begun to make plans to stay busy and maximize their enjoyment and relaxation during their two weeks of freedom.
For some NAHS students, sleep, rest, and relaxation are the top priority. Whether it’s sleeping in the morning, staying on the couch for the entire day, or watching movies late into the night, some students will be making the most of their holiday break by doing absolutely nothing. For junior student Idris Fornie, this is the type of holiday break that he has envisioned. “I’m going to be sitting on my couch all day playing Apex Legends,” said Fornie. “I won’t even need to get up when I’m hungry, I’ll just order something from DoorDash.”
On the contrary, other students are going to be spending their holiday break doing as much as they can with friends and family. Usually during the school year, students have to limit their time with friends outside of school to just the weekends, but during the break, students have an unprecedented 14 days of freedom. “Finally, with a break from all this school work, I can finally relax and unwind with my friends and family.” said Colin Shaugnessy.
Even though the break is a time to rest, many of the student athletes of North Atlanta will keep their focus on sports. Time off from school doesn’t mean time off from athletics, and student athletes need to make sure they’re at the top of their game when they return. For Jack Schultz, a Junior on the wrestling team, he plans to stay busy during the break by wrestling. “I’m gonna have a couple wrestling tournaments to go to,” said Schultz. “I have to maintain my weight for the tournaments so it’s important that I stay active and don’t eat too much food during this break.”
Holiday break approaches, and North Atlanta students could not be any more excited. Whether students are sleeping in all day, going out with friends and family as much as possible, or have other plans for the break, NAHS students are going to be sure to make the most of their well-deserved break.
