Lizzie Hart, editor-in-chief of Invictus and director of the Sutton Musical, has been in the North Atlanta Cluster since the very beginning. Hart started her Invictus career during her sophomore year of high school. Her passion led to her becoming editor-in-chief in her Senior year. Hart loves to write, however, she has always been more interested in the more creative and visual side of journalism. Luckily, yearbook combines both of these disciplines. As editor-in-chief, Hart is in charge of almost everything. It is her job to look after every page of the yearbook, so ultimately, she is responsible for what is produced. “We have an amazing staff this year,” she said. “I haven’t had to micromanage other staff members, and in return, I am able to design quality spreads.”
As the director of the Sutton Musical, she, along with the other North Atlanta crew members, spent over three months at the school in order to put on the best production. Hart enjoyed the creative aspect of the job, along with getting to build close relationships with the cast. This year, they put on the production of “Descendants” (the musical). Hart’s biggest challenge during this project was trying to manage the crew of 30 North Atlanta Students. This was a huge learning experience for Hart, as she had a lot to take away from this challenging endeavor. “It was hard managing my own peers because I didn’t want anyone to think I was bossy or rude,” she said. “You also have to get things done, so it is really just about finding that balance.”
Being editor and chief of Invictus and director of the Sutton Musical was extremely time-consuming. Forcing Hart to quickly to adjust to the new circumstances. She takes advantage of the school day to ensure she is optimizing her time. Especially being a senior, deadlines such as college and scholarship applications are extremely important and equally time-consuming. Hart is able to remain balanced by reading every night and doing yoga. She enjoys reading her favorite author, Taylor Jenkins Reid, at the end of a long day. “I always read, no matter how busy I get,” she said. “Reading really helps me decompress and take time to myself.”
Hart was a product of the Sutton Musical herself, as she performed in Mamma Mia and Matilda in the 8th grade. Not only is being director of the Sutton Musical this year a full circle moment for Hart but so has being Editor and Chief of Invictus. Even though directing and being an editor are technically completely different mediums, the roles are still similar. “They are both creative and leadership-based,” she said. “I am working with my peers and creating something from scratch, I have had the opportunity to execute both roles.”
Hart’s creativity shines through her actions. From 8th grade to senior year, she has impacted many. Her journey within the North Atlanta cluster has been nothing short of remarkable. From her humble beginnings during her Sophomore year in Invictus, she has grown into a dynamic force as the editor-in-chief of the yearbook and the director of the Sutton Musical. Her passion for writing, combined with a love for the creative and visual aspects of storytelling, has shaped her into a dedicated leader.
