Since the start of 2023, North Atlanta students have been anticipating one thing and one thing only. This, of course, is the annual release of Spotify Wrapped. Near the end of each year, Spotify sends a personalized review to each user. This review contains information such as the amount of time they have spent listening to music and their most played musical artists, genres, and songs. North Atlanta students excitedly await each December to compare their stats with peers.
Throughout busy school days and lonely nights, music is the perfect thing to enjoy and relax to, allowing the minutes spent listening to add up. For junior Mac Wickland, Spotify Wrapped showed that he had spent 33,000 minutes listening to music throughout 2023, which is equivalent to roughly 23 days straight. Most of these minutes were spent specifically listening to JPEGMAFIA, which was Wickland’s most streamed artist. “I think it’s a super interesting detail that Spotify has,” said Wickland. “It’s pretty cool that they can take a year’s worth of my musical data and put it into a simple snapshot.
For junior Clayton Miller, Destroy Lonely is the top artist, followed by Ken Carson, Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert, and Yeat. Miller is in the top .005% of Destroy Lonely’s fans according to minutes listened, truly showcasing his love and appreciation for the artist. Unsurprisingly, Miller’s top song is “CRYSTLCSTLES,” which is a fan-favorite song made by Destroy Lonely. “Every night, I fall asleep listening to Destroy Lonely,” said Clayton. “No other artist compares to Lone.”
An artist as popular as Drake is bound to be a top artist for at least a couple of North Atlanta students, and junior Ari Walsey is one of those people. Contrary to the other students previously mentioned, Walsey’s top 5 artists consist of names that people will find much more recognizable, with his subsequent artists being 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and Lil Uzi Vert. “Spotify Wrapped makes using Spotify so much better than using Apple Music,” said Walsey.
Spotify’s annual Wrapped review is a great way for users to show and share their musical taste. Whether it’s finding out how many genres you’ve listened to, what song you’ve played the most, or what percentage you are for an artist’s top fans, North Atlanta students love this feature.
