Friendsgiving is no foreign concept however this November, North’s very own Dubs are embracing their gratefulness by hosting or attending Friendsgivings. A perfect Thanksgiving consists of great company, food, and drinks; so why not add your friends to the mix? Many student’s plans for dinners are in full swing.
Sophomore Michelle Beask is one of many teens starting a new tradition of Friendsgiving. Beask believes in giving a chance to appreciate loved ones and friends. As it is her first time hosting, she desires to have the night filled with laughter amongst her supportive friends. She saw the rise in younger generations embracing the bliss of valuing the people in their lives and wanted to jump on the bandwagon; eager to infuse everyone’s culture at one big table. “This year has been rough and all my friends and I have gotten closer, so this Friendsgiving is in honor of appreciating them,” she said, “Small things matter”.
Fellow sophomore Bradley Koontz has been doing Friendsgiving in her friend group for some time and her apple pie with vanilla ice cream has graced the dinner table more than once. Koontz believes Friendsgiving is the best way to spend the break by surrounding yourself with those you are grateful for while also reflecting on what you are grateful for. She has seen the rise in Friendsgiving popularity caused by social media influence glamorizing the event and selling the aesthetic of Friendsgiving on TikTok. “I enjoy getting to be with people who are happy to be in another’s company plus I try to just live in the moment,” she said.
Baley Coleman; a new teacher intern this year reminisces on his baseball team dining on Friendsgiving. Coleman stresses the importance of Friendsgiving because no one knows other people’s circumstances, plus it’s essential to incorporate friends to create an inclusive family. Since he recently moved to the bustling city of Atlanta he is keen on slowing down and observing gratitude this November. He realizes as he gets older, the celebration of thankfulness will always be a constant in his life and the emotion of home drives him to love Friendsgiving. “Friendsgiving is a chance to come together and no one wants to feel like an outsider on a holiday driven towards celebrating togetherness,” he said.
As the Dubs decide to feast with friends or family the true meaning of Thanksgiving will arise while treasuring those precious memories and new traditions of these Friendsgivings will be a night to November.
