As the holiday season nears, students have lots of excitement headed their way. Whether it is the coziness of the winter, the celebrations ahead, or the numerous breaks approaching, many students would argue this is one of the happiest times of the year. Particularly, numerous cinematic experiences are in store, with the anticipation of many exciting movies finally being right around the corner. North Atlanta’s student population is among the many awaiting the release of these movies, especially in the wake of an actor’s strike that pushed back the release dates of many other films.
One of the most notable releases of the season is “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds & Snakes,” a prequel to the beloved “Hunger Games” series that took over the world upon its initial release. Some book lovers will recognize this title, as it is a previously published book by Suzanne Collins, the author who created this dystopian world that has gained an extremely wide fanbase. The movie will center around Coriolanus Snow, the tyrannical president who is the villain of the series, and his origin story. Starring Rachel Ziegler, Hunter Shafer, Tom Blythe, Peter Dinklage, and Viola Davis, this movie is certainly going to be big, and bring great crowds to the theaters. “I have been a ‘Hunger Games’ fan ever since I was little and have read all of the books,” senior Holden Cooley said. “I seriously can’t wait to see this movie come to life, I have very high expectations.”
Another movie that is bound to be a big hit is “Wonka,” another origin story, but this time of the character originally created by children’s author Road Dahl, Willy Wonka. On December 15, it will be revealed how the marvelous fictional inventor grew to such eventual esteem. One of the biggest draws of this movie is the highly credited cast, specifically the leading role of Willy Wonka being played by Timothee Chalamet. Chalamet has had quite an impressive career already, starring in top-rated movies such as “Little Women,” “Lady Bird,” “Beautiful Boy,” and other widely loved films. “I am a huge Timothee Chalamet fan, and ‘Willy Wonka’ was one of my favorite childhood books. I will definitely be in the theaters on premier day,” senior Mia Walker said.
These movie releases are especially valuable due to the writer’s strike that recently occurred, pushing many feature film release dates back. This next wave of movies will likely be our last, at least for a little while. Additional upcoming releases include: “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” the third installment in the series, “Anyone But You,” a rom-com featuring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell and “Wish,” Disney’s much anticipated animated movie. So, Dubs, grab your popcorn, silence your cellphones, and head to the theatre.
