Quill and Scroll: the highly esteemed Journalism Honors Society. This club has just had its annual election to see who will govern the ‘23-‘24 school year. Many built up the courage to come up with a catchy campaign slogan and clever speech that would win their audience over. All candidates that ran showed their wittiness at the election, so it is going to be a close race to see who wins.
New members, who have yet to be inducted, are still greatly encouraged to run in the election. Since the club is for sophomores and upperclassmen, all who ran for tenth-grade class representative are not official members yet, but still showed their bravery in running for office. This is true for sophomore Cabell Townsend who has put his best foot forward in his campaign. With a slight pronunciation change, his name fits perfectly with his slogan; “Wanna be Stable? Vote for Cable.” “If I win, I will represent tenth grade with all of my power and make sure that all of their voices are heard,” he said.
Previous club members have left a strong, positive impression on the club, including former Presidents Delia Neufeld and Riley Martin. Delia Neufeld’s own sister, Annie Neufeld, has decided to follow in her footsteps and run for eleventh-grade representative. Neufeld has been going to the meetings for as long as she’s been a student at North Atlanta and has proudly worn her Quill and Scroll button on her backpack year-round. “I think it’s an amazing environment and everyone there is so nice,” she said. “It’s a great place to come together and connect over our love of journalism.”
Since Quill and Scroll is a large club, there are many candidates trying out for the same position. This is the case for Ryan Rucker, as he is competing against both Annie Neufeld and Kristen Duncan. Rucker came up with a unique idea to base his campaign around Sour Patch Kids. He set himself apart from his competition when he handed out Sour Patch Kids after he delivered his promising speech. “My passion for journalism will make me perfect for this leadership position,” he said. “all thoughts and opinions will be heard as they pertain to the club with me as eleventh-grade representative.”
It is obvious that you can’t go wrong when choosing who you’re voting for because all of these candidates have truly shown their commitment and passion for this beloved club. Good luck to all who ran!
