From Nike to New Balance, North Atlanta’s 11 stories are packed with cool shoes. Keeping up with the latest trends can be a struggle, but North Atlanta students know what they’re doing when it comes to their kicks. School hallways are the perfect place to show off a fresh pair of shoes, and students at North Atlanta certainly make sure they dress to impress.
Although he remains in the midst of controversy, Kanye West revolutionized the shoe game with his Adidas partnership, introducing sneakers and slippers that have become staples in the shoe market. One product of this partnership is the Adidas Yeezy Desert Boot. These shoes have a thick and bulky design, a fad that has made its way back onto the charts in recent years. Released back in 2018, these shoes are still selected from the archives by many for their continuing relevance, including junior student Marlin Sommersal, who has a pair of his own in the colorway Salt. “I liked how they looked on other people, so I knew I had to get a pair for myself,” said Sommersal, “They’re comfortable and look good with tons of outfits.”
Gaining popularity in the late 1990s, streetwear has continued to stay in style. A Bathing Ape, otherwise known as Bape, is a brand that perfectly embodies the streetwear style. One of Bape’s staple products is the shoe line known as BAPE STA, with a design similar to Nike’s Dunks but a much more expensive price tag. These shoes make anyone wearing them stand out from the crowd thanks to their expensive cost and iconic logo. “I was in Japan when I saw them.” said Junior student Idris Fornie “All I remember thinking to myself was, ‘Man, those are some super fresh kicks.’”
Some students prefer comfort over design, and for many, UGGs are the shoe for the job. Although they have a selection of sneakers and boots, UGGs are most well-known for their snug slippers. These slippers provide a cozy and comfortable way to get through the school day and have become a popular choice at North Atlanta. “I wear my uggs to school all the time,” said junior Reagan Lerner. “They’re just so comfortable; I don’t know what I would do without them!”
With a mix of flash, flare, and comfort, the North Atlanta students bring fashion to the forefront of every school day. Whether they’re a clean pair of Jordans, a fresh pair of Newbalances, or a crisp pair of Bapes, North Atlanta, students are never short of a good shoe day.
