Experience is a valuable learning tool in order to grow and gain interest in any endeavor. The North Atlanta chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), offers this opportunity in abundance. The club’s large participation, over 350 members, is driven by its endless array of opportunities, such as real-life training in business-related activities.
FBLA is the largest club at North Atlanta as well as the in Atlanta Public Schools, the state of Georgia, and the United States as a whole. Each year, this well-known club, which began in 1942, assists over 230,000 members across the country in preparing for careers in business. The club teaches practical skills to members, including how to create their own websites, marketing skills, and branding utilizing social media. Additionally, FBLA exposes members to interactive, educational activities and service opportunities aimed at increasing their confidence and leadership skills. By way of example, opportunities include canned food drives, Books for Africa, Breast Cancer Awareness Walks, and March of Dimes.
Due to the club’s size, multiple leaders are needed to keep the club running efficiently. One notable leader, Corinne Evans, a junior at North Atlanta, is a co-president this year. Evans’ primary role is to lead meetings and demonstrate the club’s finer nuances to new members. “Personally, I have gained a lot of confidence competing in business workshops, and have forged many meaningful relationships while working with members,” said Evans.
One objective given a high priority by the club is helping new members gain confidence by introducing them to situations outside of their comfort zone. “It warms my heart to see students grow into confident and driven leaders through business workshop activities,” said Lorraine Bowen, the head FBLA adviser. “FBLA offers students so many chances to grow and develop.”
FBLA is devoted to teaching members to become community-minded business leaders through relevant career preparation. The club has much to offer, with numerous resources benefitting a wide range of students and introducing them to many potential future careers. By teaching members to lead through experience, FBLA will continue to help their members excel and grow in the future.
