North Atlanta’s hallways have become enveloped with bright and busy posters covered in rhymey slogans, beautiful faces, and messages encouraging students to “Vote!!!” This trend can only mean one thing: North Atlanta’s 2023 Student Government Association election is right around the corner. With eager candidates rushing to campaign and convince their classmates that they are the ones most worthy of their vote, desire and anxiety fill the air. Holding a place on North Atlanta’s SGA is an esteemed position, and a competitive one to attain. With focus on what each candidate can do to improve Dubs’ experience, the stakes are high.
Among these candidates is Siena Schettino, who is in the running for Junior Class Senator. Schettino plans to hone in on ensuring the Junior class feels represented in SGA, and that their voices are heard. Schettino is participating in the poster mania, hoping to spread awareness on her running status to her peers. “I can bring a dedication and unwavering commitment to SGA,” she said.
Adeline Briggs is another candidate running for Junior Class Vice President. Briggs embellished her posters with a patriotic American Flag background, and bright stars to draw the eyes in. Briggs is not alone in her appeals to patriotism and the school spirit.
Senior Jackson Young is back in the game for his last year of high school, and is running for Senior Class President. After unforeseen events led to his dropping out in the year prior, Young has released a promotional video and is campaigning through social media to alert his grade of his re-running. “I plan on spreading my ideas for improving the school and motivating people to immerse themselves into the campaign spirit!,” he said.
North Atlanta is a diverse school, with diverse experiences and backgrounds. Having eleven floors offers space for anyone and everyone to feel included. The Student Government Association offers an opportunity for this inclusion to be displayed and evident through the decisions they make schoolwide and the feedback they receive. The election process gives Dubs a chance to rally for the representative they believe will best advocate them, and gives representatives a chance to prove themselves to the voting population.
