Teaching Excellence: IB Literature teacher Lee Lundy creates a positive and lively environment for teaching and learning at NAHS.

High school is an exciting yet intimidating time for students. Homework mounts, tests become more frequent, and sports demand student excellence. Teachers significantly impact students’ stress throughout the day, one stand-out supporter being International Baccalaureate (IB) teacher Mr. Lee Lundy. With a smile on his face and a sparkling fruit beverage in hand, beloved Lundy greets his class with charm each day.

Throughout the halls of NAHS, Lundy’s popularity is well-known. Lundy began his time at North in 2018 as an IB literature year one teacher and came equipped with an experienced educational background as a graduate of Oglethorpe and Georgia State Universities. Lundy majored in English and Literature in his undergrad and obtained a master’s in Secondary English Education at Georgia State, using his education to add depth of information and creativity to his classes. “Each time I go to Mr. Lundy’s class, I feel like I just watched a theatrical production, said junior Annabelle Whitehead. “I always leave the classroom with a new wealth of knowledge.”

Lundy’s classes are far from dull, offering students a glimpse into the world of literature. Lundy tries to minimize “parking and barking” (also known as giving a lecture). Instead, he incorporates creative projects, group work, and class readings. Lundy was celebrated for his teaching excellence with the star teacher award in 2022, an award given to a selected teacher by the star student of the year (the student with the highest SAT score in a single sitting). To achieve this accolade, Lundy spends countless hours preparing class plans and pouring passion into his classes. “Interacting with students, reading books together, and unpacking literature to understand the deeper meaning of topics and connect it back to high school is my favorite part about being a literature teacher,” said Lundy.

North Atlanta holds outstanding and dedicated faculty and staff. Lee Lundy works diligently to distinguish the North Atlanta Literature department and impart wisdom to teenage minds. Since 2018, he has continued to support the NAHS community with wisdom, kindness, and a drop of sarcasm.
