Lights, Camera, Action! Juniors Luke McCullough and Dylan Toliver are eagerly awaiting the movies to come in 2023.

The credits are rolling for 2022, as 2023 is coming into the spotlight, and this new year brings new, exciting movies. The theaters will seemingly be this year’s place-to-be for movie fans of all ages, with this year’s releases bringing a wide span of genres to the table. So Dubs, grab your popcorn, soda, and candy of choice and gear up for the top upcoming films of the year.

Tom Cruise brought crowds to theaters last year with the release of “Top Gun: Maverick” and is ready to do it again this year with “Mission Impossible –  Dead Reckoning Part One.”  This will be the seventh installment of the Mission Impossible series, which released its first film in 1996, managing to maintain its popularity throughout the years. These movies never seem to get old, especially for fans who have been there since the beginning. Junior Taylor Mosley is among the excited group awaiting July 17th, the movie’s release date. “My parents are practically die-hard fans, so I’ve been watching the movies since I was little,” she said. “I’m really excited to see if this one lives up to the rest.”

On a different note, the live-action “Barbie” is also expected to release in late July. For many, the excitement for this movie spurs from nostalgia. However, others are intrigued because of the highly accredited cast. Some of the world’s most beloved actors and actresses plan to make an appearance, likely the most exciting being Margot Robbie as real-life Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Junior Dylan Toliver is certainly ecstatic. “I loved all of the animated Barbie movies when I was younger, and I am a huge fan of Margot Robbie,” she said. “There is no doubt in my mind that watching it will be super fun and bring back some beloved memories of my childhood.”

Fans of horror movies will be delighted to hear about the newest addition to the “Scream” series, a series that tends to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. One horror-loving student is junior Luke McCullough, and “Scream IV” is easily the movie he is most looking forward to in the new year. “I have always loved horror movies,” he said, “the ‘Scream’ saga is one of my favorites. They have all been done extremely well and I doubt this one will be any different.”

Many more movies are headed your way, a few more including: “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “Wonka” starring Timothee Chalamet, “The Little Mermaid” (live-action), and  “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.” It is time, Dubs, to silence your cellphones and head to the movies!
