On Their Own: Marc Genwright Prepares the Senior Dubs For Post-NAHS Life
Picture this: the class of 2023 is beginning their walk across the graduation stage as the announcer calls each person’s name. Smiles are spreading and the excitement of students is growing, knowing that they will never have to think about high school homework again. The anticipation has been building up for the past few years, and the senior Dubs are ready to finally move on. All their hard work is now paying off. But many are wondering, who is doing the work behind the scenes?
The answer to this question is the hardworking Marc Genwright. Genwright is the Counselor for the senior class and has worked at NAHS for nine years. With so much hard work put into the past few years, Genwright is ecstatic to see his students graduate. The love he has for his job is clear, and it definitely shows through the success of his students. “Honestly, my favorite part is getting to build relationships with my students,” said Genwright. “They make this job feel so worth it!”
Genwright’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed by everyone, though. Last year, he was recognized as the Counselor of The Year, and this award has helped him in continuing to support the Dubs in their final school year. “It really surprised me,” he said. “But I really do just try to come in and do my job, and I’m glad it seems like I’m doing well with it.”
As he and the senior class prepare for the inevitable graduation ceremony, Genwright’s excitement persists. After a few very long years and a global pandemic, he is excited to ultimately see this class celebrate their high school years. “The most gratifying thing for me is seeing my students walk across that stage,” he said. “I kind of hope one of them breaks out dancing while walking across.”
As they dive into their final year, the seniors’ celebrations are getting closer and closer. But, it wasn’t all easy. It’s safe to say that without all of our behind-the-scenes help, the Dubs’ high school lives would look very different. We owe a lot of our gratitude to the counselors who worked for hours to ensure the seniors would graduate (somewhat) stress-free and be ready to take on the world. Thank you, counselors!
